This is a guide on purchasing, installing and subscribing to PlanetSide.

[edit] Buying PlanetSide (Outdated and no longer required)
This section is for new players only. If you have previously subscribed to PlanetSide skip this section.
If you are a new player, you might have realized that there are no more trials. Trials were suspended in order to stem the tide of hackers.[1] This means you are going to have to subscribe to the full game if you want to play. PlanetSide has a monthly fee of $15. If you do not have PlanetSide account, you will need to purchase the game. You can buy the game from SOE's store at http://www.soe.com/getthegame/. It should be at the bottom of the page. Upon purchasing the game, you will be granted 30 days of free play.
As of 2009, the game had went F2P.
[edit] Downloading and Subscribing
Now you have to download the client. You can get it from SOE at https://help.daybreakgames.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28923/ Scroll down to PlanetSide and click the link.Note that you will still have to buy the game even if you download the client for free. Once you login via the launchpad it will prompt you to subscribe.
There is no way to purchase the game at this time, as it is F2P. Simply download the client.

Once you are ingame, you will see the server select screen!

After this you should should either see a list of characters or this screen:

If you see this screen then you are creating a new character. There are three empires choose from in PlanetSide:

Click on the above icons to find out what's special about each empire. After you pick an empire, you will pick a character name and gender, followed by face and voice. You will spawn in your empire's sanctuary, which is a 100% safe zone used for organizing attacks and deploying soldiers to the battlefield. The ingame tutorial system will teach you everything else you need to know.
