Commonly referred to as "Paper Tank", the Lightning, while quick and agile, suffers from thin and fragile armor. The role of the Lightning is best used as a rapid response vehicle or to complement larger armor columns

The Lightning is a general light tank available to all empires. It is fitted with a cannon that is useful for both air and ground targets at 2 rounds per second which can explode like flak cannons.

In the original PlanetSide, the lightning was also a light tank. It lacked sufficient armor to battle other tanks one on one, but was an effective anti-infantry vehicle. The weapon system was a 75mm cannon with a coaxial machine gun.
